How to clone or duplicate draft emails in New Outlook
Hello! Previously, in the legacy Outlook app, you could duplicate a draft email just by using the Ctrl + F key combination. This is not available yet in the new Outlook app. We understand how much of a hassle it is to compose multiple copies of the same email to send out personally to each one.
Below you can find the instructions that we’ve put together as a workaround until Microsoft releases this feature in the New Outlook. This adds an extra step than the normal shortcut you used to use in the older Outlook but nevertheless, this is still an effective way to save some time.
In the New Outlook,
- Setup a quick step
- Click on the gear icon on the top right of the Outlook window,
- Select Mail > Quick steps
- Select New quick step
- Step 1 - Name your quick step. You can give any name like Clone Drafts
- Step 2 – Choose an action > Copy to
- Select folder > Drafts
- Under Optional > Choose a shortcut, expand the dropdown and select Ctrl + Shift + 5 or anyother combination you prefer
What we have done is setup a quick step or a shortcut to copy and send the draft into the drafts folder. After this is complete, you can use this quick action to clone drafts.
- Clone Drafts
- Select New mail and add the body and the cc email addresses and save. This will be saved in the drafts folders.
- Go to drafts, drag and drop the draft into your inbox.
- Hit Ctrl+5 or whatever combination you had setup. You will see the drafts are copied into the Drafts folder.
Once you’ve made enough copies you can delete the one in the inbox and just use the emails in the Draft.
